Targeted study in Biology with practical business instruction and practice...

Overview

Entrepreneurial Biotechnology (EB) is a four semester master's degree offered by the Biology Department at Case Western Reserve University in collaboration with the Case School of Medicine, an outstanding biomedical research center that currently ranks 12th among the nation’s 122 medical schools in NIH research funding. The program provides studies in state-of-the-art biotechnology and scientific innovation, practical business instruction, and real-world experience in innovation and/or entrepreneurship to individuals with a bachelors, masters, or PhD in a biology-related field.

The result: cutting-edge individuals who have in-depth knowledge of science, business, and biotechnology innovation, commercialization, and entrepreneurship.

The award-winning curriculum is flexible, and includes real-world experience in the form of an entrepreneurial project with technical content, either through the creation of a new venture or working with an existing company as an intern or employee.

Mentorship and Activities that Forge Crucial Relationships...

EB students are encouraged to develop a relationship with a Mentor/Advisor from the Department of Biology in the College of Arts & Sciences or the Department of Microbiology in the Case School of Medicine who serves as an academic advisor, long-term scientific resource, and connection to the world of technology commercialization and entrepreneurship. Students are given countless opportunities to form lasting connections with business leaders, executives, intellectual property experts, successful entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists in the biotechnology and health care industries, which are two of the fastest growing sectors in Northeast Ohio.

Highlights of the program include seminars, conferences, business plan competitions, extensive library databases for marketing, industry, business and science research, an Entrepreneur-in-Residence, and customizable internships. In a short period of time, the EB student can develop a formidable network of connections.

Furthermore, students can compete for student Commercialization Associate internship positions in BioEnterprise, Inc,. and the Cleveland Clinic, which are advertised during the first semester.
