Graduating its first class in 2001, the award-winning Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Programs (STEP) is a family of professional MS degrees in CWRU’s College of Arts & Sciences in partnership with CWRU’s schools of law and management. You will study graduate-level science alongside courses in technology innovation, intellectual property commercialization, and finance. The curriculum can be tailored to your needs, and requires only half the number of credit hours as most MBA programs. You will have the option to work as a paid intern, employee, or entrepreneur on a real-world project that will typically serve as the basis for your master’s thesis.

You will have access to incredible resources. CWRU is a billion-dollar research institution that ranks consistently among the top 40 colleges and universities in the United States and #1 in Ohio. CWRU is home to world-renowned people, teaching, and research in the sciences, engineering, medicine, law, business, design, social sciences, arts, and humanities. CWRU is also home to a myriad of world-class resources that support entrepreneurship and innovation ON CAMPUS, such as CWRU’s prototyping and design facility think[box], CWRU’s IP Venture Clinic (“IPVC”), CWRU’s LaunchNet, and CWRU’s Innovation Design and Entrepreneurship Association (IDEA).

Thriving Ecosystem for Startups: Entrepreneur Magazine ranked Northeast Ohio higher than San Francisco, Boston, and Seattle as a hot region for entrepreneurs. Organizations such as BioEnterprise, the Harrington Discovery Institute, the Global Cardiovascular Innovation Center, Cleveland Clinic Innovations, JumpStart, Team NEO/Nortech, GLIDE/Northcoast Innovation Fund, the North Coast Opportunities (NCO) Technology Fund, MAGNET, the NorthCoast Angel Fund, Shaker Launchhouse, Bizdom, and FlashStarts create a web of support for technology commercialization in a broad range of sectors ranging from healthcare to IT to heavy equipment manufacturing.

STEP remains the nation’s only Professional Science Master’s (PSM) degree focused on innovation and entrepreneurship. Alumni work in diverse industries including energy, healthcare, manufacturing, IT entertainment, and aerospace. Job titles include CEO, Program Manager, Project Manager, Technology Management Specialist, Head of Sales, Director of Product Development, Engineer, translational research, and teaching in higher education. And several STEP alumni have successfully started their own company. STEP can also serve as a gateway to other CWRU programs such as business, law, medicine, and PhD in science or engineering.
